Why race it

No endless waiting around between sessions, no three-day event planning. Just simply having fun on a Saturday night.

  • One night, done

Saturday night ARDC events. Roll in, race under lights and the chequered flag falls before 10:30pm. No three-day event planning.

  • 80 minutes on track

A 20-minute practice and qualifying session, then two 30-minute races. Proper track time, every round.

  • Solo or shared

Designed for one- and two-driver combinations. Share the car with a co-driver or keep the wheel to yourself.

  • No waiting around

Two groups alternate back to back on a tight run sheet, so the track is never quiet for long.

  • Timed classes

Classes are set by lap time at SMSP, so you race cars on your pace, whatever badge they wear.

  • Every class counts

Points scale with the size of your class, with trophies in every class and a separate trophy for the overall winner.

Run sheet

Every round runs to the same tight run sheet. Green flag at 6:30pm, chequered flag just before 10:30pm, and 80 minutes of track time for every car in your group.

Who’s on track: Group 2 is the Sydney Sportscar Challenge, for sports cars and tin-tops including Production Sports, in timed classes. The night is shared with either one other group (think Super Sports, Porsche, TA2 or Ferrari Challenge), or runs as two groups, one time-restricted and the other open. To be confirmed.

Timed classes

Group 2 runs in timed classes based on lap times at Sydney Motorsport Park, so you race cars on the same pace as you. Find your best lap below.

  1. I

    Invitational

    Under 1:32

No lap time restriction. IRC, the latest Porsche Cup cars, GT3 and more.

  2. A

    Class A

    1:32 – 1:36

Designed for older GT3 cars, 991 Cup cars and tin-top specials.

  3. B

    Class B

    1:36 – 1:40

Designed for older Cup cars like 997s, fast MX-5s, TCR and GT4.

  4. C

    Class C

    1:40 – 1:44

Designed for MX-5s and faster production cars like EVOs and BMWs.

  5. D

    Class D

    1:44 and slower

Production sports cars. Expect about 1:48 at best, comfortably inside 130% of the 1:29 outright pace.

How classes work

  • Classes are set for each car and driver combination, at the organiser’s discretion.
  • Can your car and driver go under the class time? Then you race in the next class up.
  • Go under your class time in qualifying and you start from the back of the grid. In a race, 10 seconds is added each time.
  • A GT3 capable of a 1:32 goes straight into Class A, whatever the driver. A 997 Cup car capable of 1:35 with a pro driver, but driven by someone doing 1:38s, is welcome in Class B.

Championship points

Points scale with the size of each class, to encourage more competitors.

How points work

  1. Win your class and you score 5 points for every car in it.

  2. Each place behind the winner scores 5 points less.

  3. So the bigger your class, the more points there are to win.

Trophies

  • Most points in your class wins the class.
  • Most points across every class wins a separate overall trophy.
  • Trophy for 1st in every class. When more than six cars are entered, the top 3 get trophies.

Example

6 cars in a class

  1. 1stTrophy30pts
  2. 2nd25pts
  3. 3rd20pts
  4. 4th15pts
  5. 5th10pts
  6. 6th5pts

Off the track

Keeping costs sensible and the show big, so more people can race.

  • Budget

    4 new + 2 scrubbed

Tyre allocation is 4 new tyres per meeting plus 2 scrubbed ones, and that is it. Other budget-saving measures and ideas are being reviewed. Got one? Add it to your expression of interest.

  • Partners

    Sponsors & signage

We are sourcing sponsorship from other companies, with signage that will need to be on all competing cars. Other competitors and businesses are encouraged to contribute.

  • Broadcast

    Live streaming

We will endeavour to have live streaming or a highlights package, like Blend TV, depending on sponsorship and funding.

A sports car meeting to be proud of, and fun to be involved in.
